In my earlier days__when I went to Guru Maharaj at Bangaram Ashram, it seemed that as if “Life” was there, and when I came out of His circle, it seemed that as if I was going towards “Death” i.e as if I was slowly decaying and moving towards death! I can remember what a heavenly glow was on the faces of the people sitting in front of Guru Maharaj !! The image of Vrindavan was to be found then ____ like, “Lord Krishna is playing the flute on Kadam tree and the cows below are standing quietly looking to Him, everyone’s eyes are up above!!
That incident was repeated in front of Guru Maharaj at Banagram Ashram every time. People used to come crazily running to Guru Maharaj with a heart of joy and when they used to go back, there was as if a feeling of great emptiness at their hearts and there were tears in their eyes also!!
At that time the atmosphere of Banagram Ashram was completly different !! I can remember Manik da (Manik Bose) from Sukhchar used to come by his own Tata-Sumo(a kind of four wheeler car). (At that time(1990) only some small cars and ambassadors used to come to Banagram but the number of people coming with Tata Sumo was too few.)
Once Manikbabu was coming to Banagram by that car and at that very time Nagen(the very young man of Bangaram) was cultivating a land by the side of the road. Seeing that, Manik Babu stopped his car and called “Hey, Nagen!” Getting down he wanted to hug Nagen ! Seeing this, Nagen was astonished and said,”What are you doing Manik babu !!! There is a lot of dusts on my whole body- as I was cultivating land !!”
Manikbabu, despite Nagen’s objection, hugged Nagen to his chest and said __ “Anyway, this is the holy dust of Banagram ! Isn’t it!!!” This is one of the many incidents. I am mentioning another one for my dear readers !!
Once I went to Singur Ashram with Nagen from Banagram. Swami Shankarananda used to live there then. Seeing Nagen, Swami Shankarananda maharaj addressed the other brahmacharis and said, “Look, they have come from the head office !! Take care of them specially.” Such was the then Bangaram Ashram !! Banagram Paramananda Mission __ the land of asceticism, the land of attainment, the land of joy, the land of peace !!
