Banagram Paramananda Mission was established in the month of October, 1978 on the auspicious day of Kojagari Purnima (Purnima i.e full moon – Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped in this special day) . Within the two years of this initiative i.e in 1980, under the enthusiasm of a devotee of Banagram Ashram, Sushanta Daa ( Sushanta Sarkar) – the 1st branch of Banagram Ashram ( though it was a matter of doubt) was ready to set up in a room of his house. His house was near Morgram station, Murshidabad district. Sushanta Babu served in Durgapur. Swami Satyananda Maharaj, Swami Bhagabatananda Maharaj stayed in Morgram for short periods. Later Hari Maharaj also worked there, staying almost for 2-2.5 years. Some years later Swami Krishnananda Maharaj came there and started a homeopathy dispensary. Centering this room, Guru Maharaj founded Ajimgunj Ashram on the auspicious day of Shivaratri ( Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated every year as a tribute to Lord Shiva.), 1982. He also set up Rasberulia Ashram on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya. ( Akshay Tritiya is also considered a special day to Hindus.) Guru Maharaj Himself was present in the inaugural ceremony of both the Ashrams. From this point of view, Banagram Ashram is 1st, Ajimgunj 2nd and 3rd Rasberulia. But as Morgram Ashram is reason for the establishment of both the Ashrams – let us start our journey with the discussion of Morgram or the adjacent Ashrams.
The special devotees of Rasberulia Ashram were Laba Daa, Kush Daa, Ekkari Mastermashai (father of Mita and Tuktuki). Besides these devotees, Shyamapada Mandal ( a teacher of Islampur High School) was very much devoted and active for the development of Rasberulia Ashram. Parbati Daa, Anil or his family and Goutam Chakraborty from Nakpur were the special devotees among the people of adjacent villages. Then Goutam was too much cordially familiar to Swami Krishnananda Maharaj. Later, he became a family man getting married. He had a son and a daughter. Goutam died peculiarly when his children were very young.
I am telling the incident for your notification – usually Guru Maharaj spent the 25th December and 1st January_ in Ajimgunj Ashram every year. After 1st January He usually went to Malda Ashram. Sometimes, He also went to Rasberulia Ashram. But as the annual function of Rasberulia Ashram was held during Akshay Tritiya, so Guruji wanted to spend that time mostly in Rasberulia Ashram.
However, that time Guru Maharaj went to Malda Ashram, after spending the 25th December in Ajimgunj Ashram. That year, it was heavy cold. Suddenly, Goutam was very much keen to see Guruji. Thin figured Goutam came out of his house to meet Guruji for covering a journey almost 110 kilometres from Rasberulia ( Nakpur) to Malda Ashram ( Chhoto Kadirpur) by his small by-cycle. The night dropped long times ago before his entrance to Malda. If he wanted to take rest in any place, he could do it. But he did not take the chance. He was determined, “I will surely meet Guruji today!” Then cold wind was blowing severely in northern Bengal. The roads were covered in a thick blanket of fog, but Goutam’s cycle did not stop. At midnight or after the midnight, some distance away from the ashram, near a mango orchard – his body became collapsed with tremendous cold. He was not able to drive his cycle in his fatigue, numb body due to heavy cold weather – he fell down from the cycle. The next morning, the devotees of that locality brought his body to the Maldah Ashram when they were aware of it. In this incident, perhaps Goutam had his craziness but his intention was great ! Later Guru Maharaj said, ” During the last stage of his life – his ‘Kulakundalini’ ( Kulakunalini – a dormant energy in every human which is very powerful but unfortunately Man is unaware of it.) awoke but his body was unfit to continue severe ascetic practice, so his body was gone but the next time, he will get spiritually developed body and his noble wish will fulfil.”
