[We were telling about some of the Paramananda devotees.Today is about ‘Current Baba’.]
The one who used to come to Guru Maharaj and gave Him enjoyment, whose name I remember today is ‘Current Baba’. The gentleman’s actual name was Doyal Chowdhury. The well-dressed, smart, gentleman was a little mysterious ! Murari Maharaj or Trishaan Maharaj might have known more about him but we never got the right answer even after asking_who he was or what he was! He only used to say that he served in a university and stayed in Kolkata, but we were not able to know which University it was- whether it was Calcutta University or Jadavpur University or Rabindra Bharati University. But later I heard from Murari Maharaj that Dayal Baba used to work at Rabindra Bharati University. He would also act as an palmist -astrologer and could say many things about men who were eager to show their palms to him. But his manners, speech, attitude were very much discussed in the ashram at that time. I once heard from some of the inhabitants of the ashram that he could be an agent of CID or CBI !
Anyway, now let’s come to the topic of why his name became ‘Current Baba’. The gentleman came to the ashram sometimes and he did not stay for long. He had spent the night at ashram- it was rare. We didn’t even know if he was married or he had a family because he always came to the ashram alone and we never saw any family members or friends coming with him.
As soon as he entered in the ashram with a side bag on his shoulder, he went straight to Guru Maharaj(usually Guru Maharaj sat in the sitting at that time). He sat near the feet of Guru Maharaj, bowed down his head and said _ ” Put your hand on my head and “charge” me a little !!”
Most of the days Guru Maharaj put His lotus like hand on his head and sometimes He showed a little anger and ignored ! At that time the man used to request repeatedly. Sometimes he used to try to grab Guru Maharaj’s hand and put it on his head. Guruji used to pretend to avoid for a long time and at the end He grabbed a handful of his hairs and pulled it a little and said_ “Here it is! I have charged you. Stay well! Now don’t bother me anymore. You see – everyone is laughing at your madness???”
The man used to leave after that.
When asked about the charge, Dayal Daa said that whenever Guru Maharaj put His hand on his head he used to feel shock like “current” from head to toe ! And thus he got quite charged ! This lasted for several days. When the charge ran out, he came back to the ashram again to get charged from Guruji . Thus the man became ‘Current Baba’ from Dayal Chowdhury.
But I never asked Guru Maharaj about Dayal Daa. Guruji used to say, “Banagram Ashram is ‘Khuda’s (God) Zoo!’ Here you will get various things __some may be good and some may bad also. Everyone has the right to enter here, everyone has equal rights here. My nature is to love everyone. So I enjoy happiness from both the people, good or bad. Many of you may feel bad about the behaviour of such people, may be you feel annoyed ! But there are the ripples of joy going on in my inner world, whatever falls there becomes joyful!! ”
