Here Gurumaharaj is discussing why the Avataras suffer so much when they are born as human beings.
Gurumaharaj : Later when Sri Ramakrishna’s devotees from Kolkata started frequenting Dakshineswar, he became popular in the educated people and the elite circles of the Babus of the city. Then people flocked to Dakshineswar. Naren ( later came to be known as Swami Vivekananda) and other Brahmacharis appeared on the scene. Thakur’s divine mission was about to end. Just then Thakur was inflicted with cancer. Initially he experienced an irritation in his throat. He found it difficult to swallow food. Thakur said to everyone, ” Lately I had kulfi and this is why now I have this nasty sore throat.” But when it was not cured by medicine, renowned doctors from Kolkata were called. After examining Thakur they all came to the conclusion that he was inflicted with cancer.
Thakur accepted cancer into his divine body for the welfare of the posterity. He knew very well this deadly disease was going to rapidly spread in the society in the days to come. This was why he deliberately manifested this in his body. As Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa possessed a divine body, without such disease his body was imperishable. So, he needed an excuse to leave it. Same is the case with my body. If I don’t create a proper cause for it to decay, it will remain all the same for long long years. Thakur contracted this deadly disease only for the welfare of the humanity. Can you imagine how many people were benefitted by this? People are still actuslly reaping benefits of this.
Now everybody knows that cancer largely compromises a person’s average longevity. There is no fear greater than the fear of death. This fear always eats into our beings. The victims of these disease have to suffer from many things. They suffer from unbearable pain, the huge financial burden and the panic of impending death. At this point in one’s life, the cancer patient starts counting the sins he has committed all his life. He starts believing that this disease is the final outcome of all his misdeeds.
For the large number of cancer patients, Thakur Sri Ramakrishna is the only refuge! When they remember Thakur’s final days, they feel assured that they are not at all sinners because a holy man like Thakur was also a cancer victim. Thus, remembering the sufferings of Thakur
they get back their mental strength to fight the disease.
