Place : Karimpur Paramananda Mission
Year : 1995
[Attendees of the satsang were Pankajbabu, Ashu Doctor, Manikbabu ( Sukhchar), Ramenbabu ( Sodepur) and others.]
Query: I’m a devout Muslim. I’m a high school teacher. Everyday I offer namaz five times. But I firmly believe that this practice does not elevate a person’s consciousness level. One cannot even gain perfect knowledge by going through the Koran. I read some of the Hindu religious texts and the biographies of great Hindu saints. I found in them many answers to my spiritual queries.
Listening to your words, I realized that you are a wise person. So, I seek your opinion on this.
Gurumaharaj : Oh! You teach in a high school. You must have been influenced by some noble thought. This is why you are able to say these words in front of so many people in Karimpur.
You pray five times a day. This is really very good. Performing namaz is truly a good form of physical exercise. I performed namaz for quite some time. I observed that this practice strengthens all the limbs of the body. For a proper spiritual development one should have a stout body. Indian ancient scriptures thus say, “Shariramadyam khalu dharma sadhanam”. But the maulvis may misinterpret these words and get angry at me.
Look, the thinking processes of you, me or the maulvis cannot influence the world. The Cosmic Desire is the all powerful force. You can call this by any name like Allah, Iswar, God, Master and so on.
The Koran refers to Momin, Munafiq, Moshrek and Bedin. According to Islam philosophy, people who worship idols are not Kafirs but Moshreks. Many believe that all the non Muslims are Kafirs. But the Koran does not say so.Hindus believe in God and they are fit to be converted. So, they are not to be considered as Kafirs. Those who are opposed to the idea of God and Hazrat Muhammad are Kafirs. Bedins are those who do not have any faith in any religion or God. The communists can be termed as Bedins.
But don’t take those communists of Bengal and other parts of India to be like that. They only pretend to be communists but secretly worship idols at home. The muslim communists perform namaz five times a day and many of them go on a hajj.
However, according to Islam the true servant of Allah are those who perform all the rituals prescribed in Islam. They are called Momins. After death they are allowed to enter the court of God.
The true muslims must perform hajj, namaz, roza and zakat. The meaning of the word Islam is peace. But Hazrat Muhammad did not term Islam as a religion. He referred to it as a Mazhab or a sect. 1500 years back the condition of the people of Arab was deplorable. In the extreme weather condition a good number of nomadic tribes survived by fighting with each other. They used to spend their lives on horseback or riding the camels. Their legs got bent outward by sitting on horses and camels. Due to the barren and rough nature of the soil people were extremely cruel in that part of the world. The people of this area never felt troubled by murders, bloodshed or death. To maintain this tradition even today in the rural areas nobody cries after the death of someone in the family. They hire people for crying. They have to make arrangements for a feast for their relations while the body of the deceased still lie inside the home. They do it to give the impression that they are not much grieved for the loss of their loved one.
