Place : Karimpur Paramananda Mission
Gurumaharaj : Later the teachings and the ideals of that great man may spread worldwide or just remain restricted to a particular place. But if his teachings are preached in the right manner, then people everywhere can become acquainted with the true essense of his teachings.
No great man has ever said that his teachings are the best on earth. None of them has ever asked his followers to establish the supremacy of his ideals over others. Such words were uttered by the sadists who often caused bloodshed for their religious beliefs. All such blood- thirsty fanatics wage war and cause bloodshed in the name of the great men in whom the Supreme Power manifested. Funnily enough that Supreme Power is often forced to take human forms only to teach those fanatics a tough lesson.
For long the scholars kept debating over the influence of one religion on the other one. But when a religion migrates to a new land, this kind of intermingling of beliefs or rituals take place. This is absolutely normal. Adaptation is the only way to survive in nature. If the flora and fauna of Arab have to survive in India, then they have to adapt themselves to the new environment here. In the process those plants and animals may change. The same thing happens to the minds of human beings.
Sufi tradition came into being after the Islam had entered India. Apart from that there are many liberal traditions like Bahai and Qadiri.
Look, today any religious hardliner is a problem for the whole world. Muslim extremists also fall into this category. They have become ferocious in their desperate attempts to convert everyone on earth to Islam. This is not a good sign.
True spirituality makes one calm, patient and tolerant. A spiritual person believes in ‘Vasudhaiva kutumbakam’ ( the world is one family). Tagore also perceived this and this finds expression in his poem :
If the world calls me,
Who is not my kin?
If the god arises within,
Where is my home?
Spiritual persons never fall out or fight with each other. They don’t even argue with each other because they all have realized that diversity is the essential reality of nature. So, there must be diversity. One has to discover the inherent unity in it. Spirituality is nothing but finding this out.
