Query: But you still offer great guidance to the people who come to you?
Gurumaharaj : Actually what I tell them is all about LIFE itself. I talk only about those things that I have believed and practised on my own and reaped benefits from those practices. I only share my perceptions of life. I came in close contact with a good number of noble persons in my life . I followed the teachings of each of them. Then I synthesized all those teachings and ask everyone to follow those things that will prove to be acceptable and beneficial for all of them. That’s why I mentioned that I prefer to talk about life and I talk about man. There is endless debates over whether Lord Rama or Lord Sri Krishna were historical characters or whether they were really God incarnates. In other countries people can waste time over such meaningless topic. But even Indians spend hours arguing over these topics. The educated Indians mainly prefer to dwell on such topics. And leave alone the highly educated Bengalis. They only have faith in European philosophers. They do not believe in any Indian ideology that originated in India.
However, Lord Rama or Sri Krishna might have incarnated, but now they are dead. People consider singing their praises to be the true DHARMA. There are some people who talk about the glorious lives of Sri Rama or Sri Krishna and hundreds of people mostly aged ones listen to their words intently. You will hardly come across any youth in such assemblies.
So, if even I only talk like that then the same thing will be repeated here. This is a time when science and Technology have advanced much further. The youths of our times are acquainted with all the technological advancements. So, it is not easy to teach spirituality by mere flimsy arguments. It is imperative that a spiritual teacher teaches bearing in mind the necessity of his times. Then only he will be accepted by the modern youths. But through my experiences I have seen that the old timers oppose this approach. They criticise this approach. They often say, ” Don’t you encourage praising deities in songs or singing Kirtanas in your ashram? Isn’t the holy text Bhagavata Purana recited and explained to the devotees here?”
Then I say to them,” No, these things are not practised that way here in our ashram. But here we discuss things and the chief topic of all my dicourses is Life itself.
